사람은 왜 살아가는가와 같은 물음의 대답처럼
사진을 왜 찍는가에 대한 분명한 답은 떠오르지 않는다.
얇은 인화지 위에 드러나는 관능, 그 자극에 사로잡힌 황홀감
그것은 1980년 롯폰기 거리에서 시작했다.

Many ask why people live.
The answer to the question why I take pictures is equally unclear.
A sense of moment burned onto a small piece of paper
With the ecstacy captured with that small stimulus:
It started in 1980 on the streets of Roppongi.

人が生きていくのは何故だろうと云う問い掛けと同じ位に
僕が写真を撮るのは何故だろうと云う問いに明確な答えは
思い浮かばない。
薄い紙の上に焼き込まれた官能。その刺激に囚われたエクスタシィ。
僕のそれは1980年に六本木の街で始まった。
